Books
by Wordly Andre ini dont know if anyone here has a similar story like this but when i was a kid my parents did not allow any worldly books in our house the only ones were jw books.
one time back in the 5th grade i had to do a book report and my teacher gave us all a list of books that we could pick one to do the report.
the idea was to go to the local library or simply buy the book.

I don’t know if anyone here has a similar story like this but when I was a kid my parents did not allow any worldly books in our house the only ones were JW books. One time back in the 5th grade I had to do a book report and my teacher gave us all a list of books that we could pick one to do the report. The idea was to go to the local library or simply buy the book. When I asked my parents they made me do the book report on the My book of bible stories, (I think that’s what it was called, Yellow book) anyway I got into trouble with my teacher, my parents got angry and went down to the school and made a big deal and forced the teacher to accept my book report. Anyhow, it all ends with me having to stand in front of the class looking like an idiot reading my lame ass book report that my mother mostly wrote. I don’t see how any religion can go that far as to not let kids read books, I wouldn’t be surprised if JW’s have secret book burnings, As an adult I am proud of my home library, love to read any book as long as it doesn’t come from WJ’s.

I almost bought a flag......
by AK - Jeff inthe fog must be lifted now for me after two and a half years out of the borg.. today whilst browsing for some lawn decor, i was drawn to the american flag display in the store.
i looked it over good - all the flag pole styles, sizes, quality.
i walked away without buying one, only due to trying to keep wifey out of the hot seat, as she still has relatives in - i don't any longer.

Ever since I was a kid, I have always been a WWII buff, and back in 1995 the 50th anniversary of the end of the war, I not only had the 50 star flag, I also put up the 48 star flag, the POW flag and a special WWII memorial flag, and wouldn't know it, that weekend my parents came over, it was funny because they acted like they didn't see all the flags in my front yard, but left quickly. To all the fathers, grandfathers, and brothers who served in WWII you are all my heros.

Tuesday A few years after my 18th birthday I got a tattoo of a Celtic cross on my arm its about 7 inches long so its kind of hard to miss, and I had to follow that up by a trinity Knot on my chest, and an arm band on my other arm. So be warned that tattoos are like chips, you can't have just one! Oh by the way something funny happened about 3 years ago, I was invited to attend a sunday meeting, and yes I did go, more just to see what it was like, since the last meeting I attended, I was 15, anyway I had to wear a short sleeve t-shrit and proudly display my cross at the meeting it was great, I sat in the 3rd row up front, funny no one other than the person that invited me sat near me it was a packed hall and there were plenty of seats next to me. I listened to a bunch of Muggle crap. I still laugh about it.

What's the BIGGEST LIE you ever heard?
by nicolaou in.
someone i knew stood up at the convention to answer her two baptism questions both with a "yes".
she was having an affair with a married brother at the time.. but i'd top my 'biggest lie' list with four small words; "in the beginning, god"

My story: Getting away from the Muggles
by Wordly Andre ini was born into a jw home, my parents converted from catholicism a few years before my birth, so like many of you i never grew up in a home we the future was discussed in a joyful or hopeful manner, instead the doom of the end of this system of things was constant reminder that god was going to destroy the earth.
in my preteen years i remember my parents trying to rush me into being baptized before the next convention, and even would try to entice me with talking about a party and presents, i resisted, to which i had brothers trying to study with me after school, even waiting for me outside my elementary school, follow me home and talk about the end of the world and that i better be baptized, i think eventually they gave up on me and thought that i was too young.
later when i was in high school same games, although this time more intense.

I enjoy cleaning my shotgun on saturday mornings, especially when I have someone knocking at my door wanting to discuss the end of times. I wonder why they don't want to stay??

after about 16 years I still have one last book, its the JW bible, I got it as a gift and just packed it away, haven't really thought about it till now. I may do what a friend did, well if I had more than just that bible, but she had a bunch of JW books and packed them in a box and attached a letter to the box simply stated "I have found the real truth and don't need these anymore" and placed the box in front of a local kingdumb hall in the middle of the night.

Anyone elses mom's use to bring a wooden Spoon with them to meetings to wack you when you fall asleep. Wonder why they call the magazine Awake! maybe because its hard to stay Awake while reading?
